The Most Consistent, Durable Celtic
“This has been my team, I have been full steam ahead with this team. I don’t have any plans to go anywhere else.” – Ray Allen after the Heat series.
The sharpshooter from UConn exercised the second-year player option in the two-year deal he signed last summer, a deal which called for two-years and $20 million. He will make $10 million next season.
Allen and the Celtics are going to be back for another title run, and why shouldn’t the shooting guard and the other three All-Stars give it another shot?
With Allen returning, I don’t see the team breaking up. Rondo is a fixture at point, Pierce is a Celtic for life, and Garnett’s work ethic and love for the game rivals that of Kobe, so much, he will play until he’s 40.
Consider another year of Jeff Green, coupled with a first round pick and Avery Bradley mixed in the equation; I believe the Celtics will be back and possibly better than ever next year. The last hurrah always provides something entertaining and substantially impressive, and with the signing of Allen, this team will remain contenders in the championship hunt in the East. Don’t count them out.
Back to Mr. “He Got Game”. Despite past his prime (or so we think) at 35 years old, Ray shot career bests of 49.1 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three-point range. In February against the Lakers at home, he eclipsed Reggie Miller’s record for 3-pointers made. For the season, Allen averaged 16.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. With Allen, the most durable and consistent Celtic, this team still holds title aspirations and is not done as some experts may believe. Next up: Doc Rivers’ status.
